What we do
INECC’s objectives in this area is to promote:
- Education for sustainable development.
- Understanding of the science, causes, and impacts of climate change.
- Education integrating environmental risks including disasters.
More specifically, the main objective is to promote critical thinking to make informed decisions and take action for climate resilient sustainable development. The context and approach are eco-systems based and use methodologies of pedagogy and andragogy appropriate for the participants being engaged. The purpose can range from awareness building, learning new knowledge and skills in order to change behaviours. The duration of engagement can be an hour session to a year-long course.
The participants may be from:
- Formal schools/colleges: INECC conducts classes/sessions for students, workshops for teachers, strengthening links between schools/colleges and communities.
- Structured non-formal education spaces: Workshops for trade unions, governance personnel (local), media personnel, entrepreneurs, faith-based groups, corporate houses, etc. are conducted.
- Non-structured community-based education spaces: INECC provides interactions with ecosystem-based communities to value their community wisdom and to enable them to make well informed decisions from a Climate Change and Sustainable Development perspective.
- Policy focused education spaces: INECC links the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the urgency of climate action with citizen movements to demand stronger government action and corporate regulation to divest from fossil fuel, and instead invest in sustainable and renewable alternatives.
The curriculum content is designed based on a template that focuses on:
