INECC, in collaboration with Laya, organized a three day youth program: “Building Socio-Ecological Resilience to Climate Change through Community-Based Development. Experiences and Reflections through INECC Partner Engagements.”

The program was conducted at Laya Office, Paderu, Visakhapatnam District, Andhra Pradesh from 16th-18th February. 35 youth from Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Orissa and Andhra participated. These youth who are engaged in various capacities on Climate Change initiatives with INECC partners were all given an opportunity and platform to talk about the work that they are involved in at the community level as well as talk about their positive and challenging experiences. The topics ranged from their advocacy work on Hydro-dams, Forest Rights Act, waste management, agricultural practices, women and child issues linked to Climate Change, sustainably smart cities, low-carbon farming, Climate Change education, disaster relief management, marketing climate friendly products and natural resource management practices among others. The participants were also taken for a field-exposure visit in the working area of Laya where they were privy to see and experience first-hand the bio-sand filters and the low-carbon wood stoves that have been installed in an Adivasi village. They were also shown the various agricultural initiatives and practices in the village to combat a changing climate.
